Interactive video content
Interactive video content is video in which the viewer makes a choice: a path, a chapter, a click, an answer.
It is not a gimmick when the choice shortens the question. It is noise when you add clicks because you can.
What makes a video interactive?
A decision in the picture: which topic, which depth, which product path. Chapters on YouTube are the light version. Branched scenarios are the heavy one.
Animation or a menu is only interaction if it changes what you see next. Palan does not count buttons that go nowhere.
When does that interaction actually return something?
When people have different questions inside one topic, or when a configuration would otherwise become a form. Then the video saves a detour.
On a linear story — a case, a point of view — branching rarely adds understanding. Palan uses interaction sparingly. Production and upkeep cost more than a sharp cut.
What is interactive video content?
Interactive video content is moving image in which the viewer chooses the path or the depth, instead of only pressing play. Palan uses it when the choice answers the question faster than a linear film. Without that gain, it is an expensive menu on a video that could have worked without buttons.
Decide if you need it
- 01Write the question the video has to finish.
- 02Check whether that question splits into real paths.
- 03If not: make a linear film with chapters.
- 04If yes: limit the number of choices, and test one path first.
- 05Measure whether people finish the path, not only whether they click.
Frequently asked questions
Are YouTube chapters already interactive?
They are the lightest form: the viewer jumps to the part that matches the question. Palan puts chapters on explainer videos as standard. Branched scenarios are something else — more expensive, and only worth it when the paths really differ.
Does interactive video work on social?
Rarely in the feed. Feeds reward scrolling on, not a menu. Interaction belongs on a destination: the site, YouTube, a tool. Palan keeps social short and linear, and puts the choice where someone has already clicked.
What does it cost extra?
Script, paths, testing, and upkeep when the facts change. Count on more than a linear shoot, not on a filter in the editor. Palan advises against it when the budget does not yet carry a spine of ordinary video.
